They say that “Life imitates art” but sometimes it is the other way around as there are several movies that have been released over the years that tells the story of real events. The Great Escape

Released in 1963 this movie is based on the actual events and the mass escape of several POWs from Stalag Luft III. The Movie covers the planning of the escape, the building of the tunnels, and actual escape and recapture of most of those involved in the plot.

Schindler’s List

Schindler’s List is based on the true story of German businessman Oskar Schindler who saved the lives of more than 1000 Polish-Jewish immigrants during WWII by employing them in his factory to keep them from being sent to death camps.

Bonnie and Clyde

Based very loosely on the life of outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrows, Bonnie and Clyde tells the story about how these star crossed lovers met and went on a spree of stealing and killing before finally being shot down by the law.

Cool Runnings

Based very loosely on the story of the Jamaican bobsled team that made their debut in the 1988 Calgary Olympics this is heartwarming and humorous tale of 4 athletes who did what many felt was impossible for a little Island that had never seen snow.

The Perfect Storm

Based on the real life story of the sinking of the sword fishing ship the Andrea Gail, this movies tells the story about how mother nature and poor decisions by the Andrea Gail’s captain leads to the sinking of the ship and the death of all of men aboard.

Rosewood

The movie Rosewood is loosely based on the racially motivated attacks on the small primarily black town of Rosewood, Florida in which the entire town was burned to the ground and the families were killed or had to flee and hide in swamps and make their way to other cities.

The Amistad

The Amistad tells the story of the 1839 mutiny aboard the slave ship Amistad by the Mende tribe and the subsequent trial and return of the Africans to their home with the help of John Quincy Adams.

Rudy

Rudy is one of those heart warming true stories about a young high school football player who longs to play college for football for Notre Dam.
